A tribute from the Jeffco Law Monthly, written by Brian Jeffrey

Kevin F. Hughes A Tribute

The JeffCo Bar lost one of our own with the death of longtime solo practitioner, Kevin Hughes on January 20, 2010 at age 54. Kevin had begun his practice in Denver in 1983 after earning his JD from Denver University and a bachelor’s at Cornell. He loved the outdoors, and eventually moved both his family and his practice to Evergreen. He concentrated on fam- ily law, and was particularly devoted to the well- being of children. Kevin valued working with families seeking adoption and took great pleas- ure from bringing families together. He was known as an intelligent, passionate and loving man who was devoted to his family and friends. He was active in community affairs, having served on the Victim Outreach Information board of directors, including a term as its presi- dent.

Like me, Kevin was a Wisconsin native. He grew up in Whitefish Bay where he attended school, and was a varsity swimmer. As an adult, Kevin brought his passion to a wide variety of hobbies. He played hockey, as it was meant to be played. He took his love of music to the stage where he played bass with a variety of local bands.

Kevin is survived by his wife, Helene; his three sons, Kyle Bobrick, Ryan Hughes, and Ben Hughes; sister, Kay; and brothers, Russell and Patrick.

Kevin’s brother Russell and I have been close friends since our years together in Milwaukee in the early 1970’s. By 1976, we had each moved to Colorado. Kevin caught the Colorado “bug” when, on a whim, he hitched a ride with us as we returned here from a holiday visit in 1977. He never left. He was loved, and will be missed terribly.
